What Must WE do –WEEK 32:

Are there things in our life that keep us from whole-hearted following Christ Jesus? They may be our possessions, our commitments, our lifestyle, our R&R time, work, sports, a bruised ego, an unforgiving heart, or even another person, etc. What is it for you? Many things can slowly creep into our lives and thereby push Jesus, and our need for a closer relationship with Him, out of our lives. Make every attempt to stay close to Him.

In our readings this week, let’s ask Jesus, “What must I do?” and listen for His answer. He speaks to us when we read His Word, in our prayer life, in Worship, and through others who are in close relationship with Him.

Our pattern is to read 3 chapters of God’s Word each day and watch as our love and care for God and others grows. You can read them all at once or spread them out throughout the day. When we read God’s Word, application of that Word is an important aspect of what we’ve read. After reading each chapter, be sure to pick 1 verse (you may have more than 1 and that is great) in that chapter that was especially meaningful for you. Take a moment to savor that verse (those verses) and ponder upon them. Then say a short prayer about making that verse’s teaching(s) a part of this day’s journey of following Jesus as one of His modern-day followers.

Look how far that we’ve already come in 2021. We’ve read the Old Testament Books of Genesis, Ruth, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Isaiah, the New Testament Books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1&2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1&2 Thessalonians, 1&2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1&2 Peter, 1&2&3 John, and Jude. This week we will finish the Book of Exodus.

Your Value in the Kingdom of GOd –WEEK 31:

Have you experienced hurt in your relationships with others? All of us would answer “yes”. There are circumstances that are well etched in our minds and have left scars on our hearts. When someone hurts and demeans us, it can cause us to think differently about ourselves which can lead to a downward spiral where one loses perspective and hope. Retaining a Godly perspective will keep us from spiraling down. Our value doesn’t come from others and what they say or do to/for us, whether good or bad. Our value comes from our God who created us and takes good care of us. He places a high value on us and wants us in His Kingdom on this side of eternity and throughout eternity. We find our worth in Jesus, who teaches us God’s Word and shows us by His example in the way that He cares for people like us, including us. As you read God’s Word this week, take note of how God our Father and Jesus our Savior show their love to mankind, including you. Remember, when you read His Word, you are being filled with Him, His ways, and hope as you continue to live for Him. This is a good day!

Be at peace with one another –WEEK 30:

God has created everyone, so we take great care in how we treat them, care for them, and speak of them. Jesus gives us the model. Jesus always sees people for who they are and for whom they were created to be. Our sight isn’t as good. Sometimes we judge people based on the way that they look or upon things that they have done. However, the Holy Spirit often works in people in ways that we are unaware of and would least expect. In Sunday’s Gospel from Mark 9:38-50, there was a man who was casting out demons in Jesus’ name. The disciples tried to stop him. “But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. For the one who is not against us is for us.” This week, let God’s Word instruct you in how to recognize God’s work in and through the lives of others, and then affirm it, also thanking God for it.

Our pattern is to read 3 chapters of God’s Word each day and watch as our love and care for God and others grows. You can read them all at once or spread them out throughout the day. When we read God’s Word, application of that Word is an important aspect of what we’ve read. Guests & HOsts –WEEK 29:

Every visitor who comes through the doors at Prince of Peace is our guest. We want to notice them, welcome them, befriend them, and let them know they are important to us. Also, we extend our selves in conversation. There can be a number of reasons why God, through the Holy Spirit, has led them to us. Some of these can be learned in our first few minutes of conversation. Everyone has needs, and our visitors are no different. As hosts, we share ways that we can help with those needs. We invite them to Worship with us. Once again, we talk with them after the Worship Service to find out what that Worship experience was like for them. There will be verses that you read this week, meditate on, and memorize, that you can share in these conversations with our guests. The Holy Spirit will help you with that. Let our visitors know from the start that we learn and apply His Word to our daily lives and the lives of others. Please see every Sunday as an opportunity to open the doors for our guests, to greet them as they enter, and converse with them in the narthex. After all, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ too!

THE SERVANT OF GOD –WEEK 28:

Jesus came to serve us and He has never stopped. He shows us what true servanthood looks like by word and example. His faithfulness included three years of taking care of the needs of people who were just like us. At the end of those three years, His servanthood went to another level, which showed the extent of how far our God would go in serving mankind. Jesus gave His all, even His final breath, while He hung on the cross to pay for man’s sins. We are humbled by the depth of His love and the extent of His commitment. God’s Word is filled with ways to love and serve others. We too are committed to our God and others, as Jesus has shown us. At times He serves others through us. Look for ways to serve God and others in this week’s readings. Then, at the end of our earthly days, may we be counted among the number of faithful servants of God.

Our pattern is to read 3 chapters of God’s Word each day and watch as our love and care for God and others grows. You can read them all at once or spread them out throughout the day. When we read God’s Word, application of that Word is an important aspect of what we’ve read. This week we will finish the Books of James and 1 Peter.

Now, let’s immerse ourselves in God’s Word, looking for ways to serve Him and others. This week’s readings are:

  • Monday, September 13th – Exodus 9, Isaiah 40, James 5
  • Tuesday, September 14th – Exodus 10, Isaiah 41, 1 Peter
  • Wednesday, September 15th – Exodus 11, Isaiah 42, 1 Peter 2
